A Loss That Never Heals

On my way to work earlier this week, I got a call from an old friend—a few years senior in college—someone I hadn’t spoken to in a while. His voice carried a weight I couldn’t quite place at first. What he said left me stunned.

Have you ever met someone who constantly reminds others of their value? And you wonder—why?

I was reminded of this recently while observing someone I deeply respect. It bothered me—and it still does. This isn’t just about him. It’s about all of us.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with some of the best-known names in journalism—veteran anchors, celebrated interviewers, and media personalities who have made a name for themselves in the industry. When it came time to choose someone for my book launch, the first name that popped into my head was someone I had worked with for the shortest time—less than a year. Why?

The generation gap isn’t going away. But how we deal with it can make all the difference.

This piece—my 150th nugget— isn’t just about my journey. It’s about what you can do when you decide to take that first step, and then stick with it. Maybe it’s writing. Perhaps it’s something else that you cherish. Or it could be finally tackling something that scares you.
