Why Gratitude is my Defining
Attitude in 2022

Dushyant Mishra's LinkedIn Post

I couldn’t have asked for more 🙏

I am grateful to Dushyant and each subscriber for following my weekly reflections. Half of my subscribers had no connection with me but chose to subscribe perhaps because my content resonates with them.

I started Nuggets from Lived Experiences 10 months ago to share my learnings, success, failures, insights and experiences that you can benefit from.

Only two subscribers dropped out since I began publishing my weekend musings. I am sorry if I disappointed them or didn’t live up to their expectations.

I have received several texts, many direct messages and a few phone calls from readers who look forward to my Saturday Sentiment.

Sample a few:

You (my reader) are my new Oxygen in 2022. Since the air I breathe in the national capital region can no longer be trusted, it is your feedback that has kept me going this year.

My writing has allowed me to express much that I may not have, otherwise.

It has allowed me to acknowledge, celebrate, and thank all those who have touched my life and share inspiring stories of many who I have had the opportunity and pleasure of knowing.

If it were not for my weekend reflections, my introverted personality may have perhaps bottled it all up.

I believe good actions and deeds need to be shared widely for the ripple effect they can create in others. Inspiration comes from hearing, knowing, reading, and watching. And I am blessed to have inspired a few this year through my blogs and newsletters.

My 2022 Gratitude List

Writing aside, there’s much to be thankful for.

My mother who mostly lived in Bhubaneswar and visited Delhi for a few months decided to permanently relocate here in 2022. I am grateful for having the opportunity to spend the last six months with her and I look forward to spending as much time with her as possible.

2022 has been a landmark year as I finally decided to disengage with all negative influences in my life. I took a call this year to allow only positive people around me. Life ever since has been beautiful.

I have tried to change in a few respects. Last month, I did something which I hadn’t done for 17 years. I am glad I did, though it was long overdue.

There’s Much to Look Forward to in 2023

What new in 2023?

The new year is an opportunity for new beginnings. Here’s my to-do list:

I look forward to pursuing something different, meaningful and valuable in the year ahead. Not for myself. For others around me. Not a one-off action. But sustained once begun. The exact nature and form is yet to be fleshed out but the initial contours are beginning to form in my mind.

More on that when it rolls out.

I aspire to fulfil every wish of my near and dear ones – those that are possible to meet but don’t happen because we put it off for the future. I will attempt to do it there and then – wherever possible.

No more procrastinations. Every such task must necessarily have a completion date, no later than the end of 2023. No carrying forward. It should be done and dusted in the same calendar year.

Who has seen the future? What if it never comes? Now or this year. I wish to live this mantra every day in the new year.

This is a tough one. I still feel anger as my reflex action. I can’t help it.

In 2023, my mission will be to keep it on the backburner. I’d have liked to eliminate it. But that would be unrealistic.

Improve myself consciously, constantly, and in a time-bound manner. Time is finite. Learning is infinite. Need to make the most of it.

At least thrice a week. If not daily. No more excuses for not being able to find time, place or partner. Need to make time for it. Period. The other two should fall into place, once you have dealt with the first. When there is a will, there’s a way.

For someone who loved playing daily during his school years, I have lost this habit in the last three decades. Time to get back, ASAP.

Not postpone medical examinations and doctor consultations anymore. It’s better to err on the side of caution than regret having delayed it later.

It’s not going to be easy but it will be worth the effort. If it happens, her future can be more fulfilling and meaningful.

As I sign out, one last time in 2022, 6500 feet above sea level, watching the Himalayas while I write this, I am GRATEFUL… among many others in my gratitude list for the year gone by.

Wish you good health and joy in 2023. Happy New Year to you and yours.
